Well, fellow travelers, if you have decided to play Genshin Impact. If you don't what is Genshin Impact you can Read it.

Whatever if you have heard from someone about it or watched someone playing it and then you develop an interest in playing it. Then welcome abroad.

As the world of Genshin Impact is insanely huge, you may find yourself overwhelmed by the beauty of Teyvet. You will eventually find yourself traveling across the whole Teyvet while being mesmerized by the beauty.

Nevertheless, there are some things that you should and shouldn’t do on what to do during our first few days in the game.

Here I'm going to give you a few tips (more specifically 5 tips) about the things that you must know starting your journey on Genshin Impact or if you want to get the most out of Genshin Impact. You can say it's a guide for beginners.

~Without further ado
     Let's begin! ~

1. Elements, Combat and Reactions

*Elements

As you know Teyvet is ruled by seven gods and they represent the seven elements that exist in the world of Teyvat:

Element Symbol Description
Anemo (wind) Anemo The First Element that you (Traveller) will encounter once you touch the first Statue of the Seven. And It's a convenient and easy to use element.
Geo (rock) Geo It's not the second Element that you will encounter. But if you pull for the character Noelle, She will possess the power of Geo. Again it would likely be the second element that you the Traveler resonate with.
Electro Electro The Electro Element would likely be the third element that you the Traveler resonate with. The starter Character Lisa possesses the power of Electro.
Dendro (plant) Dendro The Dendro Element would likely be the fourth element (On a certain condition) that you the Traveler resonate with. It is the most interesting element among the seven Elements. But no starter Character that possesses the power of Dendro.
Hydro (water) Hydro The Hydro Element would likely be the fifth element that you the Traveler resonate with. The starter Character Barbara possesses the power of Hydro
Pyro (fire) Pyro The Pyro Element would likely be the sixth element that you the Traveler resonate with(But the traveler can't access the power of hydro yet). The starter Character Barbara possesses the power of Hydro
Cryo (ice) Cryo The Cryo Element would likely be the seventh element that you the Traveler resonate with(But the traveler can't access the power of Cryo yet) . The starter Character Kaeya possesses the power of Cryo

Each playable Character has an Elemental Vision, allowing them to manipulate that specific Element (Except for Traveler). These Elements are the primary mechanism of the game, particularly by prioritizing Elemental Reactions in combat.

*Combat Basics

There are five different types of Weapons in the game: Swords, Bows, Catalysts, Claymores and Polearms.

The five different types of Weapons ©Amy Nguyen

Each Character will have a specific kind of Weapon they can use. Each Character has at least four different skills: Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Elemental Skill, and Elemental Burst.

*Elemental Reactions

Unless you are a Physical damage lover, the elemental reaction will help you a lot in your battle against an enemy. This elemental reaction occurs when multiple elements are applied together, which triggers special status effects and damage. However not all pairs of elements trigger a reaction. Only combining a specific pair of elements will trigger a reaction and give you a lot of advantage in battle.

Reaction Name Effect
Swirl When Anemo triggers with Cryo/Electro/Hydro/Pyro, the Swirl effect will activate. It will deal elemental damage to the enemies and spread the effect to nearby enemies.
Crystallize When Geo triggers with Cryo/Electro/Hydro/Pyro, the Crystallize effect will activate. It will deal no damage to the enemies but will create elemental shards of the corresponding element and will provide your character a shield when the shards are picked up.
Vaporize When Pyro triggers with Hydro or Hydro triggers with Pyro, the Vaporize effect will activate. It will deal a lot of damage to the enemies based on the which combo you apply first. If you apply Pyro x Hydro, it will deal more damage than Hydro x Pyro combo.
Frozen When Hydro triggers with Cryo, the Frozen effect will activate. It will deal no damage to the enemies but they will be unable to move for a certain period.
Melt Like Vaporize When Pyro triggers with Cryo or Cryo triggers with Pyro, it will deal a lot of damage to the enemies based on which combo you apply first. If you apply Cryo x Pyro, it will deal more damage than Pyro x Cryo combo.
Superconduct When Electro triggers with Cryo, the Superconduct effect will activate. It will lower the enemies physical resistance by 40% and spread the effect to nearby enemies.
Electrocharged When Electro triggers with Cryo, the Electrocharged effect will activate. It will deal Electro damage continuously to the enemies until it wears off.
Overloaded When Electro triggers with Pyro, the Overloaded effect will activate. It will cause an explosion and deal Pyro damage to a wide area.
Burning When Pyro triggers with Dendro, the Burning effect will activate. It will deal Pyro damage continuously to the enemies until it wears off.
Bloom When Dendro triggers with Hydro, the Bloom effect will activate. It will create a Dendro Core that explodes after 6 seconds and deals Dendro damage to the enemies until it wears off.
Burgeon When Dendro triggers with Hydro and creates a Dendro Core then triggers with Pyro, the Burgeon effect will activate. It will make the Dendro Cores explode when contact with Pyro and deal Dendro damage to the nearby enemies.
Hyperbloom When Dendro triggers with Hydro and creates a Dendro Core then triggers with Electro, the Hyperbloom effect will activate. It will turn the Dendro Cores into homing missiles and cause additional Dendro to the nearby enemies.
Quicken When Dendro triggers with Electro, the Quicken effect will activate. It is almost like Bloom effect but it deals no damage to the enemies. Instead becomes a decent damage multiplier, applies Quicken status to the enemies and deals huge damage to Quicken status effected enemies when contacts with certain Elements.
Aggravate When Dendro triggers with Electro and applies Quicken status to the enemies then again triggers with Electro, the Aggravate effect will activate. It will deal huge Electro damage to the Quickened enemies.
Spread When Dendro triggers with Electro and applies Quicken status to the enemies then again triggers with Dendro, the Spread effect will activate. It will deal huge Dendro damage to the Quickened enemies.

2. Exploring Teyvat

As the world of Teyvet is insanely huge. And this world is divided in 7 nations where untile now only 4 nations has been released.

Teyvat Map from version 4.1 ©Thiophen

I guess from the map you can imagine how big would this world would become when every nation would release. So when wondering around the world you would find many many many things.

*COLLECT EVERY RESOURCES

YEP, not kidding. Collect everything that you will find in your exploration. Specially the resources like MINERALS, LOCAL SPECIALTIES, MATERIALS etc.
As your inventory limit of 9,999, so without worrying about filling up just pick up everything you can. Soon they will help you a lot like when have low HP while fighting enemies or you want to upgrade your characters even when you want to cook something or when crafting a weapon.

*COLLECT CHESTS (Not mandatory)

Yes, it's not mandatory to collect chests in beginning of your journey. (Unless you are a gaming geek or a speedrunner, that completes whatever games they touch.) Because if you do so soon you will lose your track of the chests you collected. Unlike resources they don't respawn after you collected them.
But if you need a lot of primogems (A special kind of currency for wishing) or Adventure EXP (A item used to raise a player's Adventure Rank.) or Character EXP Materials(A item used to increase the level of the Characters) or Sigils(A special kind of currency which are used in the Souvenir Shops and as offerings for different trees like Sacred Sakura's Favor and Vanarana's Favor And as offerings for fountain like Fountain of Lucine in Teyvat.) or Mora(The currency is accepted worldwide in Teyvat.), or Weapons or Artifacts(A item used to increase Characters Stats.) then you use the Genshin's official interactive map to track your chests.

*Use Genshin's Interactive Map

Yes, use interactive map to track your records. In this case you can you either the Genshin's official interactive map or unofficial fanmade interactive map. Trust me both are extremely good and user friendly.

Genshin's official interactive map

Genshin's unofficial fanmade interactive map

Trust me both are extremely good and user friendly. But while in official map, if you want to know the location of character or weapon ascension materials can individually select character or weapon can there you can see the location of the materials on the map. But the unofficial one only can show the location of the character ascension materials not weapon ascension materials. In this map if you want to know the location of weapon ascension materials, you have to individually select the materials and then you can see the location of the materials on the map. Again the official one has another function that the unofficial one doesn't have. On the official one, you can even see the collection route of a certain material or you can even make your own route to collect material.

On the other hand the unofficial one has a bigger comment section, with more images and guides from youtube. So if you stuck on a certain quest of puzzle you can take help from here. The official one doesn't have the comment feature. So you stuck you have to exit the map and go to youtube.

As I said both are
extremely good and user friendly. But in the end it's your choice which one you use for tracking.

*Statues of the Seven, Oculi, and Stamina

In the very beginning of the game you have to touch a statue like figure which is called Statues of the Seven.
Statues of the Seven ©Hope Leyana
It's a very important thing as in beginning of the game it gives you the power of Anemo (As well as other six elements. Depending on the regions you unlocked.) So try to unlock as many of these as possible. They also serves as teleporter that can be used to fast travel to upon being unlocked. This Statues of the Seven can also restore your lost HP. Stand near the base of the statue to instantly heal. The restorative power is based on the level of the Statues.

After playing for sometime you will face stamina problem while performing Sprinting (or Dodging), Climbing, Swimming, Gliding, and Charged Attacks

So make sure to use interactive map to find Oculus as well as chest and other resources.

Offer the oculus to statues of the seven and upgrade the statue to the max level. It will increase stamina as well as will give you a lot of primogems.

*Teleport Waypoints and Domains

Besides Statues of The Seven, Teleport Waypoints and Domains also act as teleporters and can be used to fast travel to upon being unlocked.

Domain on Map ©GameSkinny

Selecting a Statues of The Seven OR Teleport Waypoint OR Domain on the Map allows the player fast travel to their location. So try to unlock as many of these as possible to make your future easier.

*Quests

While exploring the world you will find many Quests. And they are the main content and way of progressing through the early game.
Quest type Description
Archon Quests The main storyline quest following the adventure of the Traveler and their quest to reunite with their lost twin by visiting all of The Seven Archons.
Story Quests Storyline quest that focuses on certain playable characters, exploring their lore and backstories.
Hangout Event Similar to Story Quests, it is focused on a certain character. These play more similarly to dating sims with branching paths and multiple endings.
World Quests Side quests that reveals a lot of insights and histories of various locations and stories of the world.
Daily Commissions 4 simple daily randomly generated quests that range from defeating monsters or fetch quests.

*Daily Commissions

Everyday you will receive four commissions. The dailies are randomly selected from a pool of all available commissions for the set location. On The Adventurers' Handbook, Commissions tab, you can see all of your Commissions for the day. You can also choose which region you want your Commissions to be for! To collect your Daily Commission Award, visit Katheryne or if you don't want to teleport and go to Katheryne to receive your reward.

3. Currencies, Wishing and Pity system

On the chest section I have mentioned about different types of currencies that are used on game.

*Currencies

1) Mora
Mora is the main currency unit used to purchase various items and upgrades in Genshin Impact. It is also used in crafting, the upgrade of Artifacts, and leveling characters.

MORA ©COGNOSPHERE/Hoyoverse/miHoyo

The currency is accepted worldwide in Teyvat.

2)Sigils
A special kind of currency which are used in the Souvenir Shops and as offerings for different trees like Sacred Sakura's Favor and Vanarana's Favor And as offerings for fountain like Fountain of Lucine in Teyvat. They can be obtained from opening Chests. These can be traded for rewards from a few different sources, the most common being Souvenir Shops then trees and fountain.

3)Primogems
A special kind of currency, Primogems are the most valuable.
PRIMOGEMS ©COGNOSPHERE/Hoyoverse/miHoyo

These are used for Wishing, which will be expanded on under the Wishing section. There are a few other uses for Primogems, like replenishing your Resin. However, it's highly recommended that you only use Primogems for Wishing.

4)Fates
Unlike Primogem, fates also as medium for wishing. They acts as alternative to Primogems. As 1Fate= 160 Primogems. Like if you gather 10,000 primogems you will only have 62 fates on your hands. You can say it helps you not to be overwhelmed by the amount of primogems you get. There are two kinds of Fates: Intertwined Fates and Acquaint Fates.

Intertwined Fate: can be used for Event Wishes.
Intertwined Fate ©COGNOSPHERE/Hoyoverse/miHoyo
Acquaint Fates: can be used for Standard Wishes and Beginners' Wish.
Acquaint Fate ©COGNOSPHERE/Hoyoverse/miHoyo

5)Masterless Stardust
Masterless Stardust is a currency used in the Paimon's Bargains shop.
Masterless Stardust ©COGNOSPHERE/Hoyoverse/miHoyo
Masterless Stardust is obtained through Wishes. You can use this currency to purchase common Materials, Mora, and more from Paimon's Bargains Shop. Evn you use it to buy Intertwined Fates and Acquaint Fates.

6)Masterless Starglitter
Masterless Stardust is a currency used in the Paimon's Bargains shop.

Masterless Starglitter is obtained through Wishes. You can use this currency to purchase common Materials, Mora, and more from Paimon's Bargains Shop. Even you use it to buy Intertwined Fates and Acquaint Fates.

*Banner

If you read the previous section,  I think you know what is needed for pulling a character or weapon in a banner. There are basically three types of banner that you will find when you start the game.

1) Beginners' Wish Banner

Besically the first Banner that you will find in the game is Beginners' Wish. You can say this banner is your life point. Not only are you guaranteed a character, there's also a 20% discount on the Wish.
To pull a character (Guaranteed Noelle) you will need Acquaint Fates. And eventually you will get 20 Acquaint Fates. So you don't need to buy them. Once you get 20 fates you can wish for 20 times on the Beginners' Wish Banner, it will no longer be available. Noelle is guaranteed to be part of the first 10-pull you make, and you're guaranteed another character 4-star or above on your second 10-pull! Note that if you manage to pull Noelle and another 4-star character in your first pull, you might get Noelle again in your second.

Beginners' Wish Banner ©COGNOSPHERE/Hoyoverse/miHoyo

2)Wanderlust Invocation Standard Banner

This Banner Wanderlust Invocation is the permanent Standard Wish with no time limit. Unlike Epitome Invocation and the Character Event Banner (In next section I will discuss about them), you can wish on this banner anytime you want!
This banner also needs Acquaint Fates to Wish. Thi  banner is also quite good beginners. But to me, this banner is literally a trap. Cause it has least odds of getting something valuable. Specially Characters. Because there is high chance of getting a Weapon instead of a Character
So I would recommend you don't pull for this banner unless you get Acquaint Fates as rewards and after done with the Beginner's Wish.

Wanderlust Invocation Standard Banner  ©COGNOSPHERE/Hoyoverse/miHoyo

Now here comes the main thing. The event banner. It is also divided into two categories.

3.1) Character Event Banner

These Banners Character Event Banner usually contains one featured 5-star Character and three featured 4-star Characters. The odds of featured Characters being received from Wishing are significantly increased. These Banners usually last for approximately 3 weeks. Character Event Banners require Intertwined Fates. You have the best chance of getting something of value on this Banner since you are typically Wishing for a specific Character.
Again sometimes this game features two Character Event Banners at the same time. During this period, both banners will share the same pity(I will talk about pity later). This means that you can swap to any featured character banner and retain your pull count.

3.2) Weapon Event Banner-Epitome Invocation

These Banners Weapon Event Banner usually contains two featured 5-star and five featured 4-star Characters. The odds of featured Weapons being received from Wishing are significantly increased. These Banners usually last for approximately 3 weeks. This Banner needs Intertwined Fates. You have the best chance of getting something of value on this Banner since you are typically Wishing for a specific weapon.

*Pity system

For each type of Banner, there is a Pity System that helps players receive 5-star Wishes. For the Standard Banner and the Character Event Banner.

The in-game description for this guaranteed pull says that there is a 50% chance of getting the featured 5-Star on a character event Banner. While this is technically true with the 50/50 system, it doesn't mean there is a 50% chance of Wishing for the featured 5-Star every time you spend your Intertwined Fate on a Wish.

Let's say Wriothesley is the featured 5-Star character on his  banner. With the 50/50 system in place, if you don't pull Wriothesley the first time you successfully Wish for a 5-Star character or weapon, you are guaranteed to get him the second time you pull a 5-Star item.

The '50% chance of getting Wriothesley  in this context means there's a 50% chance of getting him every time you manage to pull a 5-Star item, not every time you Wish on his Banner. In reality, there's only a very little chance of getting Wriothesley with every Wish. For example if you don't receive a 5-star (Wriothesley) within 89 Wishes, your 90th Wish is guaranteed to be a 5-star.

And for the Weapon Banner, if you don't receive a 5-star within 79 Wishes, your 80th Wish is guaranteed to be a 5-star. For every 10 Wishes you make on any of the Banners, you are guaranteed a 4-star Character or Weapon.

(Yep, I know it's very painful. But if you bear, you can get best result. So start to save you precious Primogems and Intertwined Fates until there is a Character or Weapon you really want.
And The very best of luck Wishing on Banners in Genshin Impact!)

4. Characters, Weapons, Ascension materials and Artifacts

Properly building your Characters with suitable Weapons and Artifacts is crucial to exceeding in Genshin. The first and most important thing to understand is Character Stats.

Xiao's Character Stats  © Hope Leyana

Each Character has plenty of Stats, the seven main Stats being: HP, ATK, DEF, Elemental Mastery, Energy Recharge, Crit Rate, and Crit DMG.

Xiao's Character Stats  © Hope Leyana

Each Character's abilities are unique and will potentially benefit from certain Stat being prioritized over others.

*Character and weapon Levelling and Ascension

After you've been playing with a character in Genshin Impact for a certain amount of time, you'll hit a wall where the character and its weapons cannot increase in level or stats. Ascension allows you to continue a character or weapon's progress by unlocking one of their talents or passive skills.

Playable Characters require Character EXP Materials to Level Up. Character EXP Materials are common rewards from Chests and Quests. It costs Mora to Level Up. There are three kinds of Character EXP Materials: Wanderer's Advice, Adventurer's Experience, and Hero's Wit. The Max Level a Character can be is Level 90. Again Weapons also need to be Level Up to Level 90. You'll need to use Weapon Enhancement Materials in order to do so. You can use Enhancement Ores and other unwanted weapons in this case. You can receive Enhancement Ore from various rewards and from Forging.

*Weapons
There are plenty of different rarities of Weapons, from 1-star to 5-star. When starting out in Genshin, try to get all of your Characters at least a 3-star Weapon. Once you have at least 3-star Weapons on your Characters, use all your 1-star and 2-star Weapons to Level them up. Weapons are received from Chests, Wishing, Forging, and more. The Max Level a Weapon can be is Level 90.

*Ascension materials

There are five different ways to acquire Ascension Materials and you'll need to participate in all five methods to ascend your characters and weapons.

1)Souvenir Shops:
Go to a shop with a Diamond symbol and exchange Ascension Materials for Sigils. These sigils are commonly found in treasure chests.
2)Boss Fights:
Some of the items you need can only be acquired after beating bosses. You can always go into your menu and check the Adventurer Handbook to see what items a boss drops upon defeat.
3)Mining and Collecting:
Run around the map collecting items and mining everything you see. It's easiest to mine from stones using explosives or a claymore.
4)Alchemy and Crafting:
Interact with the Crafting Bench or an Alchemy table to obtain rare items.
5)Traveling Merchants and NPCs:
You'll likely come across traveling NPCs on your journey. You'll often find them selling Ascension Materials.

*Artifacts

Each Character can carry five Artifacts. Artifacts are items that increase the Stats of your Characters. They also range from 1-star to 5-star. The Max Level of an Artifact depends on its rarity. Each Artifact has one Main Stat and up to four Sub-Stats. Usually a characters can hold one artifact on each Artifact categories.
Here your goal is to eventually have only 5-star Artifacts for your Characters. This means you do not have to prioritize Artifacts if you're still at a relatively low Adventure Rank. This is because you cannot efficiently Farm for Artifacts until AR 45. Therefore, equip the Artifacts you do have to your main Characters.
Usually Artifacts can make or break a character's performance in Genshin Impact, so it's important to understand just how they work. Here is a throughout breakdown on Artifacts their functions.

Artifact stats ©game8.co

Part What they Are
Flower of Life These Artifacts will always have a Flat HP Main Stat.
Plume of Death These Artifacts will always have a Flat ATK Main Stat.
Sands of Eon These Artifacts main Stat can either be ATK%, DEF%, HP%, Elemental Mastery, or Energy Recharge
Goblet of Eonothem These Artifacts main Stat can either be ATK%, DEF%, HP%, or Elemental Bonus Damage
Circlet of Logos These Artifacts main Stat can either be ATK%, DEF%, HP%, Elemental Mastery, CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG%, and Healing Bonus
Main Stats Flowers and Plumes always have a flat HP and Attack main stat. Other Artifact main stats will vary randomly depending on the Artifact Type.
Substats Substats add another layer of RNG to your Artifacts. The number of substats as well as the stat boost range depends on the rarity of the Artifact.
Artifact Set Bonus Each Artifact will grant a unique bonus if you have a certain number of the same set equipped.
Lore Just like weapons, each Artifact has a unique piece of lore written to tie them to the world of Teyvat.

Building Your Team

When building your Party, it's important to consider which Characters will work well together. Typically, each Team should have a DPS, a Sub-DPS, and two Supports.

Party Setup ©Hope Leyana

*DPS
These Characters Buff and Aid your Team. You generally want these Characters to have high Offensive Stats, including ATK, Crit Rate, and Crit DMG. They should be the Carry of your Team.

*Sub-DPS
These Characters are your Substitute Damage Dealers. There are a few kinds of Sub-DPS', including Off-Field DPS and Burst Supports. Usually, you want your Sub-DPS to have a different Element than your DPS. These Characters should be your secondary source of DMG.

*Supports
These Characters Buff and Aid your Team. There are a few kinds of Supports, including Healers and Shielders. Support Characters provide Utility for the whole Party.

5. Cooking, Forging, and Crafting

There are three ways to create Materials: Cooking, Forging, and Crafting.

*Cooking

Cooking is a Crafting Method that can be used to create Food and process ingredients at stoves. By cooking, you can create many different kinds of Dishes that can Buff and Heal your Team.

Cooking ©Hope Leyana

There are many ways to receive Recipes, including Chests, Quest rewards, NPC Shops, and more. Try to make as many HP Restorative Dishes as you can to help in combat. You can also cook Dishes that will revive Characters. There are also plenty of Recipes that will Buff your Teams Stats.

*Forging

Forging is a Crafting Method that can be used to Forging Ores, to forge Weapon Enhancement Materials, which are used to level up Weapons.

*Crafting

Crafting is a Crafting Method available at Crafting Benches to perform Alchemy. Usually in main cities of Teyvat Crafting Benches can be found Crafting Benches. There you can craft many things like higher quality Character and Weapon Enhancement Materials, Weapon Ascension Materials, Talent Level-Up Materials, Potions, and Character Ascension Materials.

**Last but not the lest**

Storage

It is important to know how much storage Genshin Impact requires on your device. With updates constantly dropping, the game has become much heavier than it was when it released. The PC and PlayStation versions are by far the biggest, since they require higher-quality media assets than the Android and iPhone/iPad versions. Here’s a quick summary for each platform:

1) The PC version requires at least 150GB of available storage space.
2) The PlayStation version (for PS4 or PS5) requires at least 100GB of available storage space
3) The Android and ios versions each must have at least  30GB of available storage space or above.

If your device specifications are too low, the game may fail to install, fail to start, display black screens, experience freezing, or demonstrate other technical issues. So either you clear your storage or expand your storage. It's upto you.

THE END

I tried my best to make a complete guide for beginners. It has covered many the crucial aspects that beginners need to knows. Based on my own experiences, I tried to provide the information that I wish I had known when I begun my journey. I truly hope my guide proves helpful. Have a great day!"
